And the Absolute Worst Place in the U.S. to Be Single Is…

Add your city to the list of things that might be c**kblocking you. At least, that's the lesson from a study put together by the financial social media site WalletHub.

The company set out to find the most affordable U.S. cities for flying-solo people to live and date in. They did so by first assessing the 150 most populated U.S. cities on the cost of things single people purchase regularly (e.g., meals at restaurants and rent for a one-bedroom apartment). Then, the company evaluated each place based on how easy it is to meet new people there; they used factors such as the number of men versus women, the percentage of singles in the area, and how many nightlife options the city offers.

Drum roll, please… WalletHub found that the least single-friendly city in America is Yonkers, New York. Trailing behind Yonkers are Hialeah, Florida; North Las Vegas, Nevada; Brownsville, Texas; and Peoria, Arizona. Womp.

On the flipside, they found that the best city for singles is Boise, Idaho, followed by Madison, Wisconsin; Denver, Colorado; Austin, Texas; and Lincoln, Nebraska.

Other notable findings: The cheapest city to take someone out for a drink in is Milwaukee, Wisconsin, while the priciest place to go out to dinner in is Jersey City, New Jersey.

Before you pack up and move your single self to Idaho (kidding), learn how you can up your dating game in your own city by checking out what men really notice on a first date and 11 dates every woman should go on at least once.
