5 Signs You Should Totally Try to Turn That Friendship Into More

There's a friend with benefits, and then there's the friend you're dying to turn into something more. But no one wants to confess her feelings to a crush (let alone a confidante) only to have her heart crushed in return. So how do you know that it's the right call—and not a death sentence for your friendship—to tell this dude you dig him? You look for these signs, of course.

make-a-friend-a-boyfriend

1. He not only tolerates but kind of loves your shenanigans. Is he game to embarrass himself during a totally sober karaoke night, singing a duet by your side? Or when he mentioned a group vacation to Chicago and you suggested Greece instead, was he the first to buy his ticket? Only men in lust (or even love) take your crazy ideas and make them reality.

2. You've caught him checking you out—and not just the any-man to any-woman cursory glance. Ever dragged your guy pal shopping so that you can get a man's opinion on the backless dress you want to buy, and yet, he can't seem to find his words when you step out of the dressing room? Perhaps you've hit the gym together and he's paid more attention to your squat strategy than his own weights. This man thinks you are h-o-t, no doubt about it. And you might make his year—let alone his life—if you let him get a more up-close-and-personal view.

3. He picked you up from the airport. At midnight. On a Friday night. In a city that's two hours away. Or when you wig out because you got too busy to pack—because the new season of [insert your fave show] just hit Netflix, so you may have stayed up all night marathoning the sitcom rather than wrapping your china, he comes to the rescue the next morning with bubble wrap and boxes. Yes, all men have a protective, helpful nature—but when he's taking his helping hand to the saving extreme, this guy is practically begging you to pay more attention to him.

4. He makes excuses to touch you. Have you ever stepped off the sidewalk and nearly collided with a car, but the male BFF you were walking beside threw out his arm and protected you from harm? Or how about leading you through a doorway by the small of your back or through a crowded bar by holding your hand? These are boyfriend gestures, not the go-to actions of a man who's not interested in more.

5. Your friends and your mother have all been saying "that boy's got it bad for you." Friends and family have a sixth sense about the signs that so often elude us. So if they hint—or flat-out say—the male friend in your life if aching for more, trust them. From the outside, people can spot what should have smacked us in the face, but didn't.

What are some other signs that a male friend is ready for more? Have you ever tried to turn a friend into a boyfriend? How did it go?
